Social Butterfly Life
Being a bit of a social butterfly, networking is part and parcel of every day life. You just can’t afford not to in London, although I have to admit that sometimes I get fed-up with flitting around. Here, below, are my pros and cons of being a social butterfly. So far I am undecided which is winning me over. For now I think I’ll just let you decide.
PROS:
1) Information you learn: networking is not only good for friendship and business, it’s great if you want to learn about the price of Villa Rentals in Spain, or how many mice you can fit inside a mini-bus. Basically, if you hang around enough people you learn so much about life and different facts that you could probably go through a few rounds of Mastermind without too many hassles. This enables you to look smarter in front of your friends, which I have to admit is an added bonus.
2) You learn to read body language: this is a big one. By learning to read body language, life becomes much easier. All those situations that used to confuse you before? Well, they’ll still confuse you of course, just not to the same degree.
CONS:
1) The snobbish attitude: I network because I like being around people, but the worst thing about networking is that you’re often around people who don’t like others. They only like themselves. This creates a weird dynamic where everyone is only looking out for themselves.
2) Time wasted: every so often, you go somewhere and it’s dull. You wish you were curled-up with a good book, or spending time with old friends or family. It’s at these times when you need to work out how much time you’re spending with the people who matter the most. If need be, this is when you change things.
